Specieism and Virginia Woof - A Dog-Eared Copy of Hudson's First Review

Hudson brought back his first review copy (See New Book Reviewer at Dead Beat). It was all dog-eared.

"What's up?" I asked.

Hudson looked disgusted. "This book is specieist."

"Specieist? What do you mean?" Dead Beat wondered.

"They kill the dog off immediately. It's so stereotypical. Everything's from the point of view of the humans."

"Isn't that the point?" I ask.

"That's what I mean, specieist. The dog was the best character."

"What do you want for heaven's sake?"

"Reality," Hudson replies giving one of his cock-eared grins.

"Reality? This is literature."

"Precisely," he answers.

"Oh yeah," Dead Beat challenges, "name me one."

"I'll name you one. Take that modernist writer." Hudson sounds indognant.

"Which particular one?" Dead Beat is in righteous mode.

"That one - You know her... To the DogHouse - Virginia Woof. That's who."

He throws his copy of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time onto the floor and raises his leg.

"HUDSON!"
